Preparing For Competition
Competition Day:
There are many different things that you have to worry about at competition such as:
Head to Head Competition: You and your alliance compete against two other teams. This is the main event of the competition that you prepare for. There is a 15 second autonomous mode to start off the match, then you dive into the driver controlled mode that lasts for the remainder of the match.
Driver Skills: One full minute of just the drivers controlling the robot, scoring as many points as possible. If you get a high enough score in this, you can go to world championships based on your score in relation to other robots competing.
Programming Skills: One full minute of the robot running solely on the pre-programmed operations that score points. This, like driver skills, can get you to world championships by ranking high enough in comparison to all other teams.
Design Award/Judges Award: This award is given to teams that have a very solid design and document everything that they do. The judges are in charge of giving this award, and they give scores based on an interviewing process, programs, robot quality and performance, adequate use of sensors, solidity of the overall design, in depth documentation, and many other things.
Excellence Award: This is the highest award to receive at a VEX Robotics Competition. It is given to the team that excels at everything. the judges and event officials select the winning team based on the following:
This is a very prestigious award, and is considered the highest award achievable at each competition.
